Chameleon

2001 Jordan Chameleon Sauvignon Blanc/ Chardonnay

Description

Spectacular panoramic views of Stellenbosch and Cape Town, cool hillside vineyards planted to classic varieties, and a modern family-run winery have combined to produce distinctive wines displaying the ripe concentrated fruity accessibility of the New World, with the complex elegance of classic wine styles

Variety

Sauvignon Blanc (68%) Chardonnay (24%)  Chenin Blanc (8%)

Vineyards

The Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc grapes were selected from vineyards between 13 and 18 years in age.

Harvest Date

The Sauvignon Blanc was harvested between 1st and 17th February 2001, the Chardonnay between 7th and 15th February 2001 and the Chenin Blanc between 12th and 22nd February 2001.

Winemaking

The Sauvignon Blanc was tank-fermented to retain the intense varietal character, and blended with tank-fermented Chardonnay that received extended lees contact to create a fruity wine with a creamy finish.  A small percentage Chenin Blanc adds complexity.

Tasting Notes

A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. The origin of the unusual name “Chameleon” is twofold: not only is the garden home to so many Cape Dwarf Chameleons, but the wine also shows the changing characteristics of both grassy Sauvignon Blanc and citrussy Chardonnay.
