2011 Cape Winemakers Guild Annual Auction

Jordan Wine Estate has enjoyed their spot in the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction line-up for the past 8 years and 2011 will prove to be no different.

The Auction Reserve Chardonnay:

Recent tastings around the world have praised our 2011 CWG submissions with comments from Stephen Tanzer (scoring 92), such as, “Bright pale-medium yellow. Sexy aromas of citrus peel, smoky oak, marzipan and minerals, complicated by a leesy element. Broad, round and mouthfilling, offering an enticing combination of citrus fruits and oak-driven smoke, spices and butterscotch. Very suave, seamless wine with a plush yet subtle finish displaying excellent length”… Could you not just buy a case based on that description…

James Molesworth of Wine Spectator had this to say, “This bold white delivers toasted macadamia nut and ginger aromas leading to a very lush core of fig, glazed pear and creamy Jonagold apple fruit flavors. Racy hazelnut and matchstick notes flash through the mouthfilling finish. Drink now through 2014. Score: 93”

The Sophia Bordeaux Blend:

Scoring 91+ by Stephen Tanzer … “Full red. Enticing nose offers plum, blackberry, spices and graphite, along with a whiff of leather.  Suave and pliant in the mouth, with insidious acidity giving definition to the dark berry and spice flavors.  Still a bit youthfully imploded, but aeration brought complicating notes of herbs, mint and chocolate.  This dense wine should evolve slowly in bottle and last well.”

While James Molesworth had this to add, “A restrained style, with sage and bay hints up front, followed by roasted cedar, black currant and mulled plum notes. A bayleaf note takes an encore on the medium-weight finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Score: 90”
