Isa-Dora Art Exhibition
Venue: Jordan Wine Estate
Date: 27 October 2011 – January 2012
Description: This year Isa-Dora will be hosting her annual art exhibition at Jordanwine Estate. Her inspirational art, oil on canvas, varies in size. The largest being 1.8m x 1.5m; and the smallest 15cm x 20cm. Her characteristic choice of earthy colours and distinctive subjects are once again portrayed in such a manner that will move you emotionally.
Along with the various tones of browns, greys and blues she has braved splashes of red and purple to bring a new sense of vibrance to the overall natural themes. Her tranquil and thought evoking paintings promise to entertain.
Personal life and influences: I was born on a farm in the beautiful wine district of Robertson in 1963. My parents were fruit farmers just outside the small town ofMc Gregor. My school education started inNew Zealand as my father joined the diplomatic cor during the late sixties. We returned to Robertson during the early eighties, where I then matriculated.
Our family (4 children) lived in various cities around the globe during which time I was introduced to the wonderful world of art and art appreciation. I recall the privilege of viewing the Mona Lisa inParisand the horror of seeing the vandalised “Nacht Wag” in theRijksMuseuminAmsterdam. This kind of exposure rooted respect and love for art.
My own career as an artist started many years later in the Helderberg, where we live. I was always busy with some form of art but only started painting with oils in 2000. At first I worked on small canvas but after being commissioned to do bigger paintings, I realised that this would be my preferred size. I love working with earthy colours but have over the years learned to be bold with splashes of reds, yellows, purple etc combined with the original shades of brown and grey.
Painting has become a way of life; friends and family who visit often disappear into my studio to see the latest inspirations. I aim to create art that will evoke some form of emotion within the onlooker. I seldom use the human form to achieve this goal; bare basics such as rocks, light, shading and colour are my favourite topics.
Art is a gift that is not to be taken lightly. I am grateful to be at a place in my life where I can live and enjoy this gift.
