JORDAN & DEN ANKER PEDALLING TO RAISE FUNDS AT THE ARGUS
Waterfront restaurant Den Anker, together with Jordan wine estate, are cycling for a cause this Sunday. They’re using the Argus Cycle Tour to raise funds for a poignant case: Marc and Jessica Bulman, a young brother and sister who are suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. This is a genetic disorder that weakens and wastes away muscles due to degeneration of the motor neurons.
Their pedal power will help give mobility specifically to Marc. Although both classified as having Type 3 SMA, their muscles have been affected differently. Jessica is fairly light and generally weak, but has retained the ability to walk short distances. Marc, heavier and stronger in his upper body, lost the ability to walk or stand about a year ago. He needs something he can spend his day in.His scooter is no longer suitable.
With every km covered, the 22 cyclists wearing Den Anker colours – who include restaurant and Jordan winery staff & friends – will be raising money towards the wheelchair Marc needs.
Jordan Winery is also offering a time/distance bonus to help towards the funds required for an electric chair that has the ability to manoeuvre indoors in tight spaces, but also allows Marc to ride around outside on rough terrain to play with his friends like any other little boy.
The fundraising is being run under the auspices of the Chaeli Campaign who are committed to mobilising children. A raffle will also be held at Den Anker at the weekend to help create awareness of this disorder.
Should anyone wish to contribute to the campaign, the reference number #202 and Chaeli Campaign Bank First National Bank, Plumstead (201109), Acc No: 6210 570 1264
