Neil Pendock’s Wine of the Month – Jordan Outlier, Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Here are 10 good reasons you should try this wine.
1. It’s delicious.
2. It only costs R93, which is a steal for the quality.
3. It’s barrel fermented, resulting in a more characterful taste than Sauvignon Blanc’s matured in stainless steel.
4. It has wonderful tasting notes of citrus, cut grass, gooseberries and a richly textured mouthfeel with a lovely sherbet mineral finish.
5. It is grown in a single variety vineyard, on land surrounded by much older geological formations – hence the name ‘outlier’.
6. Its launch celebrates the decision not to grant prospecting licences to mining companies who wanted to drill under Gary and Kathy Jordan’s Stellenboschkloof Estate.
7. It pairs wonderfully with food, for example George Jardine’s smoked tuna.
8. You can buy it in Makro and Tops at Spar (South Africa’s largest wine retailer).
9. You can also buy it at the cellar door.
10.Gary is a geologist turned winemaker – which means the two professions are married in a bottle.
