Jordan barrels produces brandy!
On 20 January we were visited by one of our top customers from Gilpin Lodge in the Lake District, United Kingdom, who presented us with a bottle of Shipwreck, a single cask Cider Brandy (Calvados style) from Somerset, aged in one of our barrels from a container that went adrift when the MSC Napoli ran aground off the Devon Coast in Jan 07. Apparently the barrels survived because they were surrounded by Zulu bibles, preventing the container from sinking!
At the time we were extremely concerned that we wouldn’t have barrels for the 2007 Nine Yards Chardonnay, and our barrel makers in France worked overtime to make and ship a new batch of barrels to us. The second lot of barrels arrived the same day we harvested the chardonnay! Somebody remarked that the 07 Nine Yards should be dubbed “In The Nick of Time”. We had heard rumours that a distillery had bought some of the salvaged barrels for a song – now we know what happened to them!
The 2007 Nine Yards towards the end of 2008. For more info on “Shipwreck” visit www.ciderbrandy.co.uk
