JORDAN PROUD TO BE PART OF THE LAUNCH OF GOOGLE STREET VIEW IN SOUTH AFRICA |
[2010/06/14] |
Jordan Wine Estate is one of twelve premier South African wineries chosen to be part of Google Street View. Google Street View will enable visitors to take an intimate look at the winelands. Google Street View went live from 8 June 2010.
“We are delighted to be part of this exciting venture to bring the beauty and diversity of our country closer to the people” said Gary Jordan. “Google Street View allows you to feel part of Jordan Wine Estate – view our vineyards, the cellar, our amazing views and the Jordan Restaurant without leaving your home. It is a must see for wine lovers globally!”
Julie Taylor, Communications Manager for Google South Africa, said: "This is a first for Africa, and a really exciting development for South Africans, who can now explore their country in new ways, whether a local neighbourhood in the city or a scenic costal route they've never seen. But it's also going to be a massive bonus for the tourism industry, especially with all the international visitors arriving in South Africa."
To access Street View images, go to http://maps.google.com, type the address into the maps search bar, or zoom into where you want to go, and drag the orange "Pegman" icon on the left-hand side of the map onto a blue highlighted street. To learn more about Street View, visit www.google.co.za/streetview. The site is available in English, isiZulu and Afrikaans.
Alternatively, access Street View through Google Earth by typing in “Jordan Wine Estate”.
We look forward to welcoming you to Jordan Wine Estate from the comfort of your home! |

Jordan Winery wins High Court Chameleon trademark case |

Jordan Winery wins High Court Chameleon trademark case
In a judgement handed down in the Western Cape High Court of South Africa on the 18th March 2010, in the matter between Jordan Winery and Lovane Wine Estate, over the infringement of Jordan’s CHAMELEON trademarks, the High Court found in favour of Jordan Winery.
Jordan Winery was granted an interdict to restrain Lovane from infringing its chameleon trademark device or any other confusingly or deceptively similar trademark used by Jordan Winery in terms of s 34 (1)(a) and (b) of the Trademarks Act 194 of 1993. Lovane, while keeping their name, was ordered to deliver up any existing infringing material as provided for in s 34(3)(b) of the Trademarks Act and was ordered to pay the costs of the High Court application including the costs of counsel.
In his judgement, Judge L Bozalek noted that “prior to December 2007 when Lovane put up their chameleon signboards and labelled their wine with a chameleon device, Jordan Winery had been the only persons utilising such a device and the word mark “Chameleon” in connection with wine and related services. Since 1993 Jordan has used their chameleon device and Chameleon word trademarks extensively throughout South Africa and internationally. These are recognised by the public and associated with Jordan Winery. The Chameleon range of wines has won a number of awards and has also achieved national and international recognition. Jordan has, furthermore, achieved significant sales figures both locally and internationally in respect of the Chameleon range of wines.”
In reaction to the judgement Gary Jordan remarked, “ we always prefer to settle such matters over a glass of wine as we had wanted to do in this case in December 2007, however we will defend our intellectual property rights and any other rights in the highest court in the land if necessary.”

IT'S NOT OVER! |
[2010/03/15] |
We have just been informed by Mr Mafuya of the DME (Regional Office) that African Exploration Mining and Finance Company (AEMFC) is still proceeding with the prospecting right applications. The applications were not withdrawn and in his words “the statement was incorrect”. This then also confirms GCS’s insistence to proceed with the submission of the EMP’s. Legal counsel says that they have also had no response from AEMFC regarding an explanation regarding this absurd matter, and they are confident that they will not receive any response.
Whilst we all were under the impression that sanity had prevailed, AEMFC continued with its applications. How else can one explain that a company intentionally proceeded contrary to its chairperson’s public announcements! Was the statement deliberately vague and dated 2009? Did AEMFC deliberately mislead the public that they were withdrawing their applications? It certainly appears to be the case. |

Register as an Interested and Affected Party |
[2010/03/04] |
We need your help.
I’m sure many of you may have heard via the media that a state owned mining company, African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation, has applied for mining rights across a large area of the Stellenbosch and Cape Town Winelands, approximately 4700ha of world class wine producing farms. Imagine the size of Jordan affected by this mine will be 100ha; this mine will be 47 times the size of Jordan’s affected area! And the Cape Town section is even bigger than the Stellenbosch section.
The farms involved will include Jordan, Mooiplaas, Zevenwacht, De Grendal, Saxenburg, Langverwacht, to mention a few.
It’s too late for petitions and only a large movement of individuals will help in this case. Attached you will find an application to register as an Interested & Affected Party and background information, to fight this we need as many registered parties before the 9TH OF MARCH, that means next Tuesday! Any reason for becoming an I&AP is valid, you don’t have to be a land owner to register. Think of reasons against prospecting licenses for the AEMEC, I.E Why we don't want them to get rights to possibly mine in the Cape Winelands in the future.
Please take the time to register; your favourite wines depend on it.
Please complete the forms and send to reneef@gcs-sa.biz or estie@gcs-sa.biz or Fax to 011 803 5745.
For any further details, feel free to contact Robyn on 021 881 3441. |
