Barrel Fermented Chardonnay magnum 2017 (1.5l)

Barrel Fermented Chardonnay magnum 2017 (1.5l)

R700,00

Chardonnay is a variety that has flourished on our Estate making Jordan one of the most awarded producers of various styles of Chardonnay in South Africa.  Our unique location at the top of the Stellenbosch Kloof Valley offers a cooler South-East-facing meso-climate allowing us to produce a variety of chardonnay styles.

Jordan is synonymous with the chardonnay variety, and we are very proud that our winemaker, Sjaak Nelson is the recently appointed Chairman of the Chardonnay Forum!  This group focuses on raising the image and awareness of South African Chardonnay amongst both consumer and producers.

Description

HARVESTING

The grapes were harvested from the 13th of February to the 14th  of March 2017 at  an average of 22°B.

WINEMAKING & MATURATION

The juice was barrel-fermented in a selection of 228 litre Burgundy-shaped French oak barrels (23% new, 33% second-fill and 24 & 20% third & fourth-fill Nevers and Burgundian oak barrels). The wine was matured “sur lie” in the barrel for 9 months with occasional rolling of the barrels to accentuate the leesy character. 9% tank-fermented Chardonnay was blended with the barrel-wine to ensure well-balanced citrus flavours. Both the tank and barrel-fermented Chardonnay underwent malolactic fermentation
